    Kim Dotcom

Here in America we only heard one side of the story only when the news broke about Megaupload[dot]com being shut down by the FBI and they've been trying to extradite Kim Dotcom (the owner) from New Zealand ever since. Since then Kim Dotcom has never made the news here again (what? censorship in America?!) ... but one can keep up with the latest happenings by reading news from NZ.

When Kim Dotcom had 4 percent of the internet stored upon Megaupload, how could he possibly know what over a billion people were uploading to his site? And they want to prosecute him for piracy? He just provided server space - massive amounts of server space - that's all.

Anyway, seeing how slow AfterLD has become, perhaps we need a Kim Dotcom forum to help pick up the pace just a tad.

And now going back to the New Years Celebration 2011 at Auckland NZ...

    Dotcom trial may not occur

Dotcom trial may not occur - Judge

The criminal charges against Kim Dotcom in the United States may never get to trial, the judge overseeing the case has told the FBI.

United States district court judge Liam O'Grady said he didn't know if "we are ever going to have a trial in this matter" after being told Dotcom's file-sharing company had never been formally served with criminal papers by the US.

The comment has been seized on by Dotcom's lawyers, who say it could lead to the extradition case in New Zealand being tossed out.

    Dotcom lawyers: Dump the charges

    Dotcom lawyers: Dump the charges

Kim Dotcom's legal team have asked United States courts to throw out charges against his Megaupload company.

Papers filed in the United States court state that the FBI have never formally served papers on the file-sharing company accusing it of a crime.

Dotcom's lawyers apply for charge dismissal

    From: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news...ectid=10816516

Dotcom's lawyers apply for charge dismissal
    Breaking 12:21 PM Saturday Jun 30, 2012

Kim Dotcom's lawyers have applied to a US court to have charges against his internet company Megaupload dismissed.

It was heard in a district court in Virginia this morning.

His New Zealand lawyer Greg Towers says an application was also made to release Kim Dotcom's frozen assets to pay for legal fees.

"The judge has said: I will not grant legal funds at this point, but that has been deferred for another day, however I will grant the lawyers in the US leave to appear before me to argue whether or not Megaupload should be dismissed from the allegations and the indictment."

Mr Towers says the judge has said Kim Dotcom's lawyers and US Government should file papers by July 18 for a hearing.

US 'the enemy' says Dotcom judge

    From: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/n...ectid=10819927

The judge due to hear Kim Dotcom's extradition case has referred to the United States as "the enemy" in a discussion about copyright law.

District Court Judge David Harvey has heard parts of the case against the Megaupload founder, who was arrested with three colleagues in January after a request from the United States. The FBI has accused Dotcom and others working at Megaupload website of the world's biggest case of criminal copyright violation.

Judge Harvey is not due to hear the internet mogul's extradition case until next year but made his views on copyright known during the launch of the "Fair Deal" campaign last week.

The campaign is opposing any changes to New Zealand's copyright laws that may form part of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

The TPP trade deal is currently being negotiated and the 13th round of talks are finishing up.
    Con't...

Looks to me like the U.S. government and some folks from Hollywood are trying to kill the internet. After exploring the details inside the "Fair Deal" campaign, it's not just NZ that has a lot at stake, but everybody on the planet who uses the internet ..for anything! The internet wont even work or function if caching is outlawed because of copyright infringements!

Movie effects pulled in US case - lawyer

    From: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology...ectid=10822879

Kim Dotcom's company has been likened to a murderous, cocaine-dealing rebel army.

At the federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, the US authorities also argued a case to freeze Megaupload's assets forever.

Dotcom's lawyer said it was clear American prosecutors watched too many action movies.

Dotcom makes relaunch hints: 'It's coming'

    From: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology...ectid=10828461

Internet tycoon Kim Dotcom has hinted he might be relaunching his file sharing website Megaupload by the end of the year as well as launching a new website.

Dotcom has tweeted: "I know what you are all waiting for. It's coming. This year. Promise. Bigger. Better. Faster. 100% Safe & Unstoppable."

Numerous music and technology websites have suggested this could mean a relaunch of the controversial website.

Dotcom illegal spies - how their secrets were revealed

    From: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/politics/n...ectid=10836311

Questions raised over two previous cases of bugging by Government agents.

The unlawful bugging of Kim Dotcom and his acquaintance by the Government's foreign intelligence agency was revealed only after Dotcom's lawyers found out about it from police in the High Court.

And although Prime Minister John Key said he was "quite shocked" about the unlawful bugging - and that he'd been told it was a genuine mistake - official concerns have been raised about the surveillance agency's actions in previous cases.

During a High Court hearing last month, Dotcom's lawyer Paul Davison asked about anonymous Government representatives who were at a meeting before the police raid on Kim Dotcom's Coatesville mansion.

They were never identified in open court as Government Communications Security Bureau agents.

But yesterday Mr Key said he had asked Paul Neazor, the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security, to make an inquiry after he was told the GCSB had unlawfully intercepted communications before the raid.

He had been told the unlawful bugging was a mistake and indicated the spy agency had not realised Dotcom and one of his co-accuseds were New Zealand residents.
    Con't...

Hmm... didn't realise Kim Dotcom was a New Zealand resident? ...even after the half million dollars worth of fireworks donated to Auckland's New Years celebrations as a gesture of thanks for his citizenship? Something tells me some heads are going to roll over this one, no doubt!

    ...and thus the saga continues!

For the latest updates on the Kim Dotcom saga...

The NZ Herald has given Kim Dotcom his own tag!

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/kim-dotcom...m?c_id=1503274

What amazes me is how the media in the States can still be so silent when the rest of the world's medias outside NZ are so busy publishing lately.

    Woot! Ha ha!

    Referenced from: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/n...ectid=10844424

When Kim Dotcom's new Me.ga file sharing site went live at 1pm local time on November 1st the 'splash' page was overloaded. "You crazy Mega fans haha....,'' he tweeted, adding: "All FBI agents pressing reload hahaha..... We see their IP addresses. LOL!!!''

Dotcom then tweeted that it must be the biggest launch of a splash page ever, and said the enterprise would need 60 state-of-the-art portal servers when the full site goes live.

The site was working again by 2pm.

For more, keep up with Kim Dotcom's tag (and additional links to the side of each article when opened) in the previous post above as news is happening quick!

Ups and downs: Things that make you go Hmmmm...

So it seems Kim's new me.ga site was recently shut down due to 'copyright violations'? And if members were each given a key that only they could use for access and transfer, how would anyone know, except if it were the FBI themselves that had uploaded copyrighted material when they nearly crashed the site, just so they could say there were 'copyright violations' so that the new site could be shut down. That would be dirty pool, I dare say!

Perhaps if Kim started up a site to give away free server space to NASA, ESA, and a huge number of observatories across the planet to host public domain material and images in today's economy first, and then opening it up for the general public later, he might be able to have one up on big brother and have a fair shake at getting a non-American based cloud storage company in business.
