springsteen to be keynote speaker at south x southwest conference

    http://www.pastemagazine.com/article...medium=twitter

Bruce Springsteen was announced today as the keynote speaker for the South By Southwest Music and Media Conference and Festival. The address will take place on March 15 at the Austin Convention Center, which will act as the hub for SXSW events. The event will be available to Music and Platinum registrants and registered showcasing artists.

Springsteen, who has a new album due out next year, will join the ranks of other keynote speakers that include Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Robert Plant and Neil Young.

SXSW released two rounds of bands earlier this year. SXSW 2012 will take place from March 13-18.

I'll be at SXSW, but probably not at the keynote. If there's a reasonable video feed, there's no reason to line up at 6am (after watching bands play til 2am the night before and writing about them til 5am) to cram like sardines into a conference room watch him read prepared remarks at a podium.

The more interesting thing is that the rumored tour routing at this point has a window between Vegas and Orlando that leaves room for the band the gather and potentially perform in Austin the 14th or 15th. I think a Springsteen ACL taping would fit in there very nicely. I'd line up for that.
