On the other hand, and after news spread that the mayor of Vancouver is calling for people to save photos of hooliganism as they might be used to arrest suspects, several Facebook groups have assembled urging people to post photos of rioters and tag them if possible.

A Tumblr blog set up for the same purpose has amassed dozens of photos within hours.

And via Twitter, the Vancouver Police Department also encouraged witnesses of the riot to hold onto their photos and videos so they can later identify suspects in them. On Thursday, the VPD plans to tweet instructions on how to submit photos and videos as evidence. During the riot, the VPD used Twitter to express its disappointment, tweeting, “So sad watching our #VPD cars on fire and how quickly people can turn from law abiding to law breaking. #canucksriot.”

The initiative to clean up the city is an example of how social media can be used to help in situations like these.

How'd I know this thread with absolutely nothing to do with politics would be posted here, and who would be starting the thread. You're too predictable, Brad, just like your political party of choice. So stale.

The fans up there did the same thing in 1994 though, when they lost to the NEW YORK RANGERS!!!

I do love how my town had this dreaded image, even though we don't riot after major sporting wins or losses. Nor have our fans run out on the field to attack visitng coaches, tried to kill Santa with snowballs (Pinky!), Put a first-responder from our biggest rival into a coma, had a game forfeited due to a disco demolition gone bad...
