My wife informed me she wants to give my Satellite Radio for my Birthday but do I want it in my car, office or home. Decisions, Decisions. I saw a portable receiver from Delphi, I know some of the posters here have satellite radio and I was wondering what I should look for, pitfalls etc, and does anyone have a portable receiver? Like the one linked below?

Thanks for the help - Chris

A co-worker has a model that detaches from his car and plays on a boombox, too. Pretty cool. It even records programs in the car and plays back on the boombox.

Chris, first off, Happy Belated Birthday to you.....one day late, so sorry! :)

I would suggest you get it in your car and also get the portable Delphi myfi for your office.....that is the setup I have. The second unit will be at a cheaper price because the more units you have, they give you a discount on the second and future units. I have the myfi in my office like I said and it works great. You have to put the antenna in a south-facing window, so if you work in an area without access to windows you may run into problems. The cord for the antenna is pretty long, probably at least 12 feet. And it comes with an antenna and charger that you can also use in your car. So, I have often brought the unit home with me for our use if we are going on long trips in one of our autos that do not have satellite radio. Pitfalls about using it in the car is you sometimes have to change the radio station often......you choose a station on your fm radio and key that into your myfi to read from....if you travel very long distances, that radio station may bleed out and you would have to change the station setup on the myfi....not that big of a deal really, but just something to be aware of. That's all I can think of right now, but once you really get into satellite radio, you will want to listen to it at all times, or most near all times, so you will want more than one unit. Plus, lots of time there is great programming outside of office hours so that is another reason to get the portable unit, which you can easily transport between home and office as needed.

I only use mine in the car, but I suggest hard-wiring it to the aux if you have one. Works MUCH better than the stupid FM tuner thing.

Thanks for the tips ,Hometown and Deena, FM tuner thing probably is like the one for my Ipod which can be great or spotty depending on the location, hardwired is the way to go. I do have a south facing window in my office, so that's good. Oh and just what I need satellite radio addiction, haha, I have had them in rental cars and thought they were pretty cool. Even though I don't drive as much as I used to, I think the car is the spot and I'll look in to the removable component for a boom box, that would be cool.
