The whole world knows by now about the vigilante gunman who shot and killed a 17 year old kid in Sanford Florida. The Teen was walking home from the store when the gunman, a neighborhood watch volunteer called police to report him. The gunman then followed the unarmed teen, attacked him, evenutaly shooting him, ending in the teens death. Today marks a month since the child Treyvon Martin was killed, yet the gunman who was never arrested, walks free. The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI have opened an investigation into the "facts and circumstances" surrounding the unnecessary killing of Trayvon Martin, (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/08/family-of-trayvon-martin-_n_1332756.html) the unarmed teenager shot and killed last month by a volunteer neighborhood watch captain in Sanford Florida.
Taking his neighboorhood volunteer position as some sort of real authority, the gunman has been a nusance to the police departmant making over 46 calls (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/23/did-trayvon-shooter-abuse-911.html) to the police reoporting suspisious activity
In October 2010, he called to report a woman in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee who appeared to be yelling at elderly passengers.
But starting in 2011, Zimmerman’s calls increasingly focused on what he considered “suspicious” characters walking around the neighborhood—almost all of whom were young black males.
On April 22, 2011, Zimmerman called to report a black male about “7-9” years old, four feet tall, with a “skinny build” and short black hair. There is no indication in the police report of the reason for Zimmerman’s suspicion of the boy.
On Aug. 3 of last year, Zimmerman reported a black male who he believed was “involved in recent” burglaries in the neighborhood.
And on Oct. 1 he reported two black male suspects “20-30” years old, in a white Chevrolet Impala. He told police he did “not recognize” the men or their vehicle and that he was concerned because of the recent burglaries.
In 2003, he pursued a 24-year-old Lake Mary man he had seen shoplift a 24-inch TV from an Albertsons supermarket, following the suspect’s car until a deputy arrived. The next year, he followed a man who he claimed had spit at him while driving.
Then it came out that the police had records (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/george-zimmerman-trayvon-martin-killer-had-brushes-prior-153033731.html) of his past arrests, criminal misconduct and violence. In 2005 Zimmerman was at a bar near the University of Central Florida when a friend was arrested on suspicion of serving alcohol to minors. Zimmerman was talking with his friend, became profane with the officer and pushed the law enforcement agent who tried to escort him away. Authorities said He was arrested after a short struggle.
Charged with resisting arrest without violence, he avoided conviction by entering a pretrial-diversion program, something common for first-time offenders.
A month later, court records show, a woman filed a petition for an injunction against Zimmerman, citing domestic violence. stating that he came to her house and became violent when she told him to leave, the Orlando Sentinel reports (http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-03-20/news/os-trayvon-martin-george-zimmerman-20120320_1_robert-zimmerman-domestic-violence-online-petition). to retaliate Zimmerman responded by filing a petition of his own the following day
Records show injunctions were later issued in both cases. Reached by e-mail, the woman would not comment on her past with Zimmerman or his current situation.
