Don’t get us wrong – we’d be pretty excited to be going to New Orleans too. But Janet Jackson has some extra incentive for being pumped about her upcoming headlining performance at the 2010 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, held on July 2, 3 and 4.

From the looks of her impressive showing in the finale of American Idol’s ninth season, Janet is still on the top of her game and is loving the stage as much as ever. She recently shared her thoughts on her passion for performing.

“I miss dancing – it’s so funny because…I’ve been dying to go to the club but we’ve been working so hard promoting the film [Why Did I Get Married Too?],” Jackson said. “Then the Essence Fest came around…and we’re just excited to put the band together, to put all the dancers together and get back on the stage and perform.”

While Jackson is headlining, she won’t be the only big name at the festival. Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Earth Wind and Fire and Trey Songz will also be performing. The Essence Music Festival also offers empowerment seminars and other special events throughout the weekend.

Over the course of her storied multi-Grammy-winning career, R&B singer Janet Jackson has thrilled audiences around the world with her extensive catalog of number-one hits and mind-blowing dance moves more times than we can count.

However, Friday night will be the first time that Jackson appears live on an Essence Music Festival stage.

A living example of the old adage "That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger," lil' Damita Joe has weathered her fair share of storms over the past year. In addition to tabloid gossip about her fluctuating weight and the demise of her very public seven-year relationship with music producer Jermaine Dupri, the feisty baby of the prolific Jackson clan also suffered the devastating loss of older brother and best friend, music legend Michael Jackson.

Never one to be down for long, at the top of 2010, the multitalented icon rebounded with the reprisal of her role as Patricia, a successful relationship expert trapped in a dysfunctional marriage in the box office smash 'Why Did I Get Married Too?'

Currently filming the Tyler Perry adaptation of the stage play, 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,' the megastar also has a new self-help book, titled 'True You,' due out in the fall.

Now, at what will be her first full performance since the 2008 Rock Withchu Tour, Jackson is ready to show her fans that she's still in control -- all live from New Orleans.
