Three elementary school students were injured when a loaded gun that a classmate brought to school went off during lunch.
Houston ISD officials say a six-year-old boy brought a loaded handgun to Ross Elementary School on Bay at Jensen in northeast Houston. The kindergarten student had the gun in the cafeteria when it fell to the ground and accidentally discharged during the lunch period around 10:20am.
Three kindergarten students were either grazed by the bullet, or injured by shrapnel. They were taken to area hospitals. A six-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl were each wounded in the foot. Another six-year-old boy was wounded in the leg. None of the wounds are considered life threatening. Their parents have been notified. According to HISD officials, the boy who brought the gun was among those injured.
