(RTTNews) - It's been nearly 30 years since a then 16-year-old Janet Jackson signed her first major record deal. But today Jackson is reconsidering what route she will take on future releases.
In a recent interview with The Daily Mirror, Jackson mentioned that "the major labels have called and they want to sit down and talk about me signing," but added that she needs "to figure out if that's the route I want to take or if I want to do something more independent."
Added Jackson, "The latter might be better, where I'd be able to call the shots when creating my own album. I haven't decided."
Jackson signed with A&M back in 1982 and from there migrated to Virgin nine years later. She broke it off with them in 2007 to sign a multi-million dollar deal with Island Records, but that contract only spawned one release and was called off only a year later. Her most recent album, 2008's Discipline, is among her lowest-selling records to date.
