CD » Katy Perry’s first album was called “One of the Boys,” but now the pop tart wants to be every boy’s “Teenage Dream,” as the cover of her new CD recalls images of airbrushed pin-up girls from the 1940s. The 25-year-old doe-eyed singer from Santa Barbara wants to return to her own teenage days on the beach, and the album recalls sun-dappled boardwalks full of funnel cakes and fizzy, fuzzy big-and-buzzy refreshments. The title track and “California Gurls,” the summer song of 2010, are undeniably catchy, with her staccato choruses dressed up by the finest synthesized Scandinavian beats (the phalanx of producers include Britney Spears’ svengali Max Martin). While Perry hasn’t decided if she’d rather have power chords or orchestras accompany her teenage-queen ballads, she knows who she is. That helped her make the most fun pop album of this year. — David Burger
