View Full Version : Why Do People Look Better In Mirrors Than Photos? (non-photoshopped)

I swear I look 100 times better in mirrors lol.

Then a photo comes and reveals all your imperfections, or just looks completely different! I don't get it, its not just the lighting im talking about lots of mirrors! Especially after a haricut, your like wow I look good for a spit second.

Anyone else care to explain?

I think it's something to do with Mirrors capturing and reflecting light wheras cameras dont, just like how on a photoshoot, they'll have huge lights all around the area being photographed, but if u see a 'night club' photo or such, they look drastically different.

Your reflection on the mirror is backwards, it's not 100% how you look like. Taking a picture is more how you look like if anything.

Take this for example, while your TRUE expression might be the left one, what you're actually seeing in the mirror is reflection on the right.

The mirror pics look better to you because that is how you see yourself and your brain adjusts for any asymmetries and other imperfections. Your non-mirror pics is what you actually look like to other people. I got very suicidal when I realized this.

mirrors are so altered. photos as well, depending on the lens you use, but I trust photos more than mirrors. Anyways, you will never know exactly how you look.

i'd rather stay delusional than accept that.

i look like sh#t in photos, but i look hot in mirrors. if i really looked like i look in photos, people couldn't possibly think i'm good looking.

plus, when someone is standing next to me in front of a mirror and we both look into it, the person next to me looks the same in the mirror and irl. but for example when i was outside with my sister and i thought she looked so pretty and took a picture of her, the picture didn't reflect half of her beauty.

Sammi

although I look in the mirror once in a while to think "you're not so bad"

Yeah, it's not just a personal thing. People just look crap in photos. I look at photographs of my friends and they don't resembel what I see a lot of the time.

AND, if the camera really told the whole truth, people wouldn't be using the expression "you look even better in person!" so much.

Idk, I think the theory is that a static 2D picture exaggerates asymmetries because you don't see the "dynamic whole". Basically, asymmetries that are not noticeable irl become more noticeable in pictures, but I still think that pictured are pretty accurate... just sucks for those of us who lack symmetrical faces. Please Legend, make it so that Matt does not enter this thread. Amen.

Some people look better in motion...

I think it's better not to be photogenic than to be someone that has to tilt their head a certain way when they take pictures to be perceived as good looking.

What you see in mirrors are 3D images and photos are just 3D images CONVERTED into 2D images. The images are ALTERED. SO I trust mirrors more than photos.

If you were that person, you'd think the mirrored picture looks better because it's what you're used to seeing. We see ourselves in the mirror many times, so it's what we're used to and how we see ourselves. When we're shown a picture, we usually don't think it looks as good as what we see in the mirror. It's just a matter of familiarity

hmmm maybe I'm not so sure, lots of conflicting views and information on this thread lol.

Photos with flashes are the worst - yikes I run away from them most the time
However if you take like 100 photos one usually makes you look really hot, so we'll stick with those :)
